Tardeo in Santander: Where to Go for Afternoon Drinks and Dancing

· Updated

For tardeo in Santander, Spain, the safe bet is Ramé Social Club on Calle Moctezuma 3, which opens at 17:00 on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays; for terraces and vermouth, head to Plaza Cañadío and Puertochico (hours checked on 11 October 2026).

Tardeo is the Spanish habit of going out in the afternoon instead of, or before, the night: drinks, a terrace, some music, and if it's going well, you just don't leave. In Santander it's built around a handful of squares and streets in the centre, plus one venue that's designed for it. Here's where to go, what time things start and how to turn it into a full night if you want to.

What tardeo is and what time it happens in Santander

Local guide Planomato places tardeo between 16:00 and 22:00, when it's still light and things are more relaxed than late at night. In practice it starts when the sun goes down a bit, around Calle Gómez Oreña, Hernán Cortés and Peña Herbosa, and the meeting point par excellence is Plaza Cañadío. For opening times: Hygge Cocktail Club opens every day at 16:00, Ramé at 17:00 from Friday to Sunday and Bar Canela at 18:30 every day.

Opening times come from each venue's listing (salir.com, FiestasHoy and Planomato) as of 11 October 2026. None of these places publishes an afternoon entry charge.

Ramé Social Club: from 17:00, without changing venue

What makes Ramé different is its timetable. On Fridays and Saturdays it opens at 17:00 and keeps going until 04:30, so you can start with an afternoon drink and finish the night in the same place. On Sundays it opens from 17:00 to 01:00, which makes it one of the few options for a Sunday tardeo that runs past dinner. On Thursdays it opens at 22:00. The venue doesn't publish its music style; its Instagram, @ramesocialclub, is the best guide to what's on each weekend.

Cañadío and Puertochico in the afternoon

Plaza Cañadío has been the city's social hub for decades, and in the afternoon it's all terraces. Taberna Cachalote has one on the square for vermouth and tapas, and shows football. Bar Canela, at number 5, opens at 18:30 with vermouth, beers and classic cocktails and, depending on the day, DJs or live music. In Puertochico, near Peña Herbosa and Hernán Cortés, TriBeCa is the place to go from lunch to the first drinks without noticing.

Tardeo with music

If you want sound and not just chatter: Bar Rvbicón, between Río de la Pila and Calle del Sol, a classic since the 80s, had an open mic on Sundays and live jazz in its April 2026 agenda. Gramola Pum Pum, in Río de la Pila, runs sessions that tend to start early. Sala Niágara, on Calle San Simón, books gigs that sometimes start before the club session, and Rock Beer The New puts on emerging bands with craft beer. Check each venue's agenda for the week: these are not fixed schedules.

Sunday tardeo

Sunday is when tardeo makes most sense, because hardly anything opens at night. You have three options: Ramé from 17:00 to 01:00, the Cañadío terraces, and, if you dance, Amarras in El Sardinero, which runs a Latin session on Sundays from 19:00 to midnight with salsa, bachata and merengue and a mostly over-30 crowd.

Summer tardeos (pending for 2027)

Summer brings bigger formats. In April 2026 Escenario Santander announced tardeo sessions with DJs and live music from June; we'll confirm whether they come back in 2027. And on Sunday 19 July 2026 the Bahía Sun Festival took the tardeo idea to the Campa de La Magdalena: a ticketed festival from 17:00 into the night, with tickets from €33.20 and an 18+ age recommendation. The 2027 dates have not been announced yet; when they are, they'll appear in our party calendar.

How to stretch it into the night

The easiest way is not to move: at Ramé on a Friday or Saturday, the afternoon simply becomes the night. If you'd rather change scene, Calle Moctezuma also has Samoa, which opens at 23:00 on Fridays and Saturdays. From Cañadío, Malaspina opens at 23:00 from Thursday to Saturday and Sala Niágara at midnight on Fridays and Saturdays, until 06:00. In between, have dinner: tardeo on an empty stomach rarely ends well.
