Sala Rocambole: twenty years of nights on Hernán Cortés

Some places in a city's night are new every season. Rocambole is the opposite: a room on Calle Hernán Cortés with more than 20 years of history, which in Santander means that parents and children may both have stories from it. Here is what it is today and how to make the most of it.

Where it is

Rocambole is at Calle Hernán Cortés 35, 39003. Local guides name Hernán Cortés, along with Arrabal and the streets around the Mercado del Este, as the place to start the night in Puertochico with pinchos and first drinks. So Rocambole is already on the route: you do not need to plan a trip to get there.

What happens there

Rocambole is a multi-format room: live music, DJ sessions, stand-up comedy and events. That means the night depends on the date. One week it can be a concert, another a comedy show, another a themed party. It is not a club you go to without looking: you go to Rocambole for something specific, so check the agenda or ask us before going.

Remember parties: La Classica

One of its best-known formats is the remember party. La Classica Fiesta Ochentera was a DJ set of 80s, 90s and 2000s music by DJs from the Los 40 Classic radio station, held on 14 February with tickets sold online. This kind of night attracts a mixed crowd: people who danced to those songs the first time, and younger people who know them from the radio and from their parents. If you are celebrating with a group of friends from different ages, it is one of the few plans in Santander that works for everyone.

Hours and what we could not verify

We have not found published opening hours we can trust: directory listings show placeholder values for every day. Rocambole also appears under two Instagram accounts, and we have not confirmed which one the venue itself runs. Capacity and prices are not published either. Rather than guess, we prefer to tell you: the event is what sets the time and the price, and we can check a specific date for you.

How to plan the night

The easy plan: pinchos and a first drink on Hernán Cortés or around the Mercado del Este, Rocambole for the event, and then, if the group wants to keep going, Kudéta is a short walk away in Puertochico and opens until around 6:00 at weekends. If you prefer live music in a small room in the centre, Niágara on San Simón is the other option.

Who it suits

Rocambole suits groups that want a specific plan rather than a generic club: a remember party with friends who grew up with those songs, a comedy night before going out, a concert in a room with history. It also suits mixed-age groups, which is harder to find in the big clubs. If what you want is a long night with commercial music until 6:00, Kudéta in Puertochico is the better choice; if you want a small room with a carefully chosen line-up, look at Niágara.
