Minimum Age for Clubs in Santander: 18, 21 and What ID to Bring

In Santander, Spain, clubs are 18+: Cantabria's law bars under-18s except at sessions authorised for 14 to 17-year-olds, and as of 11 October 2026 none is announced in the city.

What the law says

The rule is in article 40 of Cantabria's Law 3/2017 on public events and recreational activities, as amended. We quote it in Spanish because that is the text that applies. Article 40.2.a) says that for under-18s, "queda prohibida, con carácter general, su entrada y permanencia en salas de fiesta, discotecas, macrodiscotecas, salas de baile, pubs, whiskerías y locales asimilados", with exceptions to be set out in regulations.

• Exception 1 (art. 40.2.a.1º): venues authorised to hold sessions for minors may admit people "mayores de catorce años y menores de dieciocho".
• Exception 2 (art. 40.2.a.2º): the activity must be compatible with the minors' moral and physical integrity, and under-16s must be "acompañados de un adulto responsable".
• Conditions for under-18 sessions (art. 40.2.b): no gaming machines, separate hours and signage, and no tobacco or alcohol sold or displayed.
• Age rating (art. 40.5): organisers must show the age rating on visible signs outside, in their advertising and on tickets.
• ID (art. 40.6): the venue can ask for "el documento nacional de identidad o documento equivalente" and must refuse entry to anyone who cannot prove their age.

Venue by venue

"Not published" does not mean anything goes: the law applies to all of them. It means the venue does not state a higher age, such as 21+, anywhere we could check. On Kudéta, the nights on its ticketing page are listed as 18+, while one third-party guide speaks of a 21+ door policy. If you are 18 to 20, it is worth asking before you buy.

Are there under-18 sessions in Santander?

The law allows them, but as of 11 October 2026 we have not found any club in Santander advertising a session for 14 to 17-year-olds. If one is announced, we will add it here with its date and source. Until then, an under-18 should not expect to get into a club on a normal night.

Concerts and festivals

Concerts work differently because every event carries its own age rating, which by law has to appear on the ticket. Sala Kaya and Escenario Santander are concert halls as well as clubs, so check the ticket of each show. Festivals vary too: Bahía Sun 2026 was listed as 16+ on one agenda and 18+ on another, which shows why the ticket is the only thing to trust.

Which ID to bring

The law speaks of the national ID card "or equivalent document". For Spaniards that is the DNI; visitors and Erasmus students usually carry their passport or national ID card. A photo on your phone is a risk: the door decides, and without a valid document it has to refuse you. For student nights like UC Fest, the university card (TUI) was required as well.
