Cocktail Bars and Pubs in Santander: Where to Drink at Night
· Updated
The cocktail bars and pubs of Santander, Spain, are concentrated around Plaza Cañadío, on Calle del Sol, in Río de la Pila and in Puertochico; most open in the late afternoon or evening and, by law, pubs close at 03:30 on winter weeknights and 04:30 at weekends (checked 11 October 2026).
This guide is about the drinks part of the night: where to go before the club, or instead of it. Clubs have their own pages; here we only point to the ones closest to each area. Every bar listed comes with its source. Some come from guides that are a couple of years old, and we flag those, because bars in Santander open and close fast.

"No published hours" means exactly that: we couldn't find a reliable timetable, not that the bar is closed. The ones marked 2024 come from a salir.com article whose own readers say some places on it have since shut, so check before you make a plan around them.
Plaza Cañadío: where most nights start
Santander's own tourism office puts it simply: many people start their night in Cañadío, and if things pick up there are more bars all around. Bar Canela, at number 5 on the square, has been open since 1981. It opens every day at 18:30 and closes at 02:00 from Sunday to Wednesday and at 03:00 from Thursday to Saturday. Expect DJ sessions, live music, even micro-theatre and short films, plus vermouth, classic cocktails and a terrace. Planomato puts the spend at €1 to €10 per person.
On Calle Gómez Oreña 15, also in the Cañadío area, Pub Blues opens Thursday to Saturday from 21:00 to 04:30, with live acts and a playlist that goes from 80s and 90s classics to rock, house and reggaeton. Bogart, on the square itself, is a drinks bar with a terrace and mixed music. On Pasadizo Zorrilla 30 there's Lo que diga la Rubia, and on Calle Laredo 9, Bender, for rock and heavy metal. For a vermouth in the sun before all that, Taberna Cachalote has a terrace on Cañadío and shows football.
Calle del Sol: music, and room to talk
The tourism office describes Calle del Sol as the place for good music, live if you're lucky, or a quieter drink where you can actually talk. Metropole, on this street, was described in 2024 as playing rock, funk, indie, hits and electronic music, with some Sunday morning sessions with gigs. At number 20 is Little Bobby, a Prohibition-style speakeasy with classic cocktails; its website says a DJ plays funk on vinyl every weekend. The two listings we found give different hours, so check before going.
Río de la Pila: younger and more alternative
Río de la Pila is where La Marejada was born, the local music scene of the 70s and 80s, and it still draws a young crowd with a mix of modern and alternative bars. Bar Rvbicón, between Río de la Pila and Calle del Sol, has been a classic since the 80s; in April 2026 its agenda had an open mic on Sundays and live jazz. Gramola Pum Pum, also here, runs lively sessions that tend to start early. A local guide gave about €5 a drink at Bar Covers (Río de la Pila 22), the cheapest of the prices we found.
Puertochico, Hernán Cortés and the port
Hernán Cortés and Peña Herbosa are mostly bars and restaurants, so this is where tapas turn into the first drinks. TriBeCa, in Puertochico, is built for exactly that move. On Calle Castelar, by the port, Pub Stop is an English-style pub with pop and rock hits, cocktails and a terrace looking over the bay (salir.com, 2024). Hygge Cocktail Club, listed on Paseo Menéndez Pelayo 5, is the one for a proper cocktail with the music low enough to talk; it opens every day at 16:00 and stays open until 02:00 from Sunday to Thursday and until 04:30 on Fridays and Saturdays.
From the bar to the club: what's closest to each area
From Cañadío, the nearest dance floors are Sala Niágara on Calle San Simón 14 (midnight to 06:00 on Fridays and Saturdays) and Malaspina, the indie and rock disco-pub on Pasaje Jesús Revaque Garea (from 23:00). On Calle Moctezuma you have Samoa and Ramé Social Club side by side, and Pandora is on Calle López Dóriga 5. From Puertochico and Hernán Cortés, the big one is Kudéta on Calle Ataúlfo Argenta 45, and Sala Rocambole is on Hernán Cortés 35. Río de la Pila has no big clubs: from there you walk down to Cañadío.
